2010 Juke Joint Drawings

The Juke Joint drawings begin in 1977 and I still continue to occasionally get out and sketch.  I visit local bars that feature blues rockin’ bands and sketch the bands and the patrons (I especially love the dancers).  For several years I used the drawings  in a series of black & white woodcuts under the banner Dances, Weddings, Rhythm, Blues”.  I exhibited  the best of the drawings for the first time in August 2010 at the Art Bar Gallery in Hamilton where I was having the launch of my memoir, “Cool Fool, Blues Rockin’ The Hammer”.  As a consequence of this exhibition I was asked by the Hamilton Public Library to bring it to their 5th Floor Gallery in 2011.  All drawings are oil-based China Markers with the addition of oil paints in some of the drawings. All drawings are 8 x 10″. The exhibition was ‘on the road’ at Arts Place Gallery, Port Colborne, in September 2010.
