In early 1988 I was offered a chance to experiment with raku pottery by potter Colleen O’Reilly (Spirited Clay) who was just beginning to work with one-stroke colours under clear glazes at that time. I combined found stainless steel auto trim with sculpture clay, bisque firing the pieces and then ‘painting’ them with one-stroke colours before adding a clear gloss glaze and the into a raku kiln. After showing some of the pieces around I was offered an exhibition by Gordon T. White at his Kinnel Street Gallery, Hamilton in late 1988. The success of this in turn generated a one man exhibition in January 1989 at the Burlington (Ontario) Art Centre.
