1988 Dances, Weddings, Rhythm, Blues woodcuts

In 1979 I began going out to see my favourite bands around town taking a sketchbook with me and started sketching, the band, the dance floor, the clientel but only if the music rocked in the right way for me. After viewing an exhibition of Franz Masreel’s prints at the Art Gallery of Ontario around that time, I realized I could use the sketches to create woodcut prints. I began exhibiting them in group exhibitions and donating them to fund raisers. In 1988 I was asked by the Carnegie Gallery, Dundas, would I like to have an exhibition at the Gallery. Dances, Weddings, Rythmn, Blues took place in the fall of 1988. I continued creating woodcuts in a number of subjects as well as the ‘musical’ into the 1990s. I also tried my hand at etching and experimented with making prints from found materials.
